Interesting thread.

English, French (quite well), German (did it for one year and then dropped it, so iv'e forgotten all of it!) and I can read and write Latin too.

And the latter is useful in a HP situation

Veritaserum = Serum Verita = Potion of Truth

You see?

Hah! You must be joking! But it's nice to be asked! Nope...I don't think anybody can be fluent in a language that they never speak. And am I 'writing-fluent'? Certainly not! But with a dictionary to look up the occasion unknown word I get the gist of a fair few texts...!

Well, that way,I understand all these words too. Mostly because they're root words in a sense and also because they're extensively used in science and technical terms.

"Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus" The only word I didn't know the meaning of immediately was "Nunquam" which means "never",btw.

I speak Tagalog and English, and also rather small amounts of a bunch of other languages. (Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish, to name a few.)
